"I am a film photographer based in Moab, Utah. For me, capturing my life through photography is how I process my surroundings and show love for this landscape that I feel deeply connected to. When I look at the desert, I see a renaissance painting before my eyes. Upon first inspection it seems stark and simple. But the more you pay attention, the more you see the complexities and adaptations that make it so unique. My photos are dedicated to this paradox of details. I love shooting giant towers or overlooks and the tiny petals of native flowers equally. I am always more focused on evoking my feelings while shooting than capturing perfection. I hope when you look at my photos you think of the smell of the desert after it rains, the descending call of the canyon wren, or the first blooms of spring. Or whatever experiencing the landscapes of Utah means to you!"
Josie's Story
"I am originally from northern Minnesota. While studying biology at the University of North Dakota, I had the opportunity to work at Bryce Canyon National Park for a summer. It was my first time coming to Utah and I fell in love immediately. After moving to Moab in 2019, I worked as a native plant restoration technician for a few years while doing photography as a side hobby. But recently I decided to give up the science side of things and give full time photography a go. My perfect day is doing anything outside, especially mountain biking, backpacking or botanizing on a spring day. I always have one of my cameras with me, and I usually don't go out with any plans of what to shoot. I just love seeing where my adventures take me and doing my best to capture it in my own way."
